Say goodbye to leaks and cracks — enjoy a perfect pool again
Great weather and sunshine — that's what draws many of us to sunny Spain! And of course, having a private pool is what makes summer truly unforgettable.

But like anything else in the home, a pool requires regular maintenance — and sometimes, repairs or full renovation.
Why is the pool losing water?
  • Evaporation
This is a natural physical process, especially intense in hot weather. While it can't be prevented, it usually accounts for only minor daily losses.
  • Leaks in pipework or filtration systems
Cracks or poor connections can lead to leaks. If the issue is above ground, the fix is usually quick and cost-effective — replacing a faulty pipe section or fitting.
  • Structural leaks within the pool shell
If a pipe or connection inside the concrete shell has cracked, the repair may require partial demolition of the pool’s structure or coping stones to access and fix the problem.
Cracks in the concrete shell
Another common problem is cracking within the pool’s concrete base. These issues often stem from poor construction: no proper foundation, insufficient reinforcement, or use of low-grade materials (incredibly, we’ve even seen pools built from plain brick!). A filled pool can weigh tens of tonnes, and structural integrity is critical.

We regularly deal with cracked shells. In most cases, this involves:
  • Removing the existing tiles
  • Locating and opening the cracks
  • Filling them with reinforced concrete and steel reinforcement
  • Retiling the surface
Waterproofing: essential for long-term durability
If we’re replacing the tiles — especially after repairing structural damage — we strongly recommend full waterproofing of the pool shell.

Many older pools were built without any waterproofing layer, which we consider a major oversight. We apply a special two-component waterproof membrane, reinforced with a flexible polymer mesh. This layer absorbs thermal expansion and contraction, acting as a flexible inner shell that protects the structure and reduces the risk of future leaks.
Cosmetic updates
If your pool is structurally sound and you simply want a refresh, you have two main options:

  • Retiling the entire pool — ideal if the existing tiles are dated or damaged. We still recommend waterproofing during this process.
  • Replacing the grout only — suitable if the tiles are in good condition.

When regrouting, there are two approaches:

  • Standard grout — offers a clean, fresh look but little else.
  • Epoxy grout — a more expensive and technically demanding option, but with significant advantages: highly resistant to pool chemicals; prevents mould and algae build-up; extremely durable, forming a tough, water-resistant seal between tiles.
